Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate (part 1)
This is my review article on my very first course in Google Data Analytics professional certificate part(1/8). I shall walk you through the summary of skills and best practices that you would gain in this course.
Course Name: Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere.
Instructor: Tony, Program manager and data analyst, Google.
Course Duration: 15 hours.
Skills covered: Data analysis, spreadsheets, SQL, Data visualization.
Best part of the course:
- To begin with, this course is like a trailer for the upcoming courses. The instructor tony himself being a data analyst, could probably be the best part of the content because he always used to relate learning to the real world scenarios.
- The course since focused for an entry level data analyst role, emphasized the basic building blocks of the data world in detail.
- Unlike many of the online courses which just deliver the complex technology content and tutorials directly, this foundational sets our mindset ready for the upcoming roller-coaster ride of data analytics.
- This course briefs about the complete Google Data Analytics professional certificate to make you understand about the learnings we make in each course.
- Apart from videos, I enjoyed the reading material and the quizzes based on case study. These case studies are no less than problems that a real data analyst will face in his daily routine.
- Learning Log is my favorite part of this course. You don’t believe how much you can learn by this activity. To brief about the activity, It involves doing a data analysis activity with data from our daily activities like no. of hours slept, chocolates ate per day, miles ran in a week. This learning log activity is completely personal and you can reflect on your own activities through data analysis.
- This course follows the 6 step data analysis process of Ask, Prepare, process, Analyze, Share and Act. This is the lifecycle of a data analysis project.
- Unique about this program is we get insights from different other googlers about their opinion on data analytics, how data varies across industries and different verticals.
- You will learn about the basics of data analyst toolkit i.e. spreadsheets, SQL and data visualization.
- I have learnt that key data skills are curiosity, understanding context, having technical mindset, data design, and data strategy.
Conclusion:
To conclude, this course is very much helpful for anyone is data analytics. If you are a novice then this acts as a launchpad, a quick refresher for an expert too,,
Stay tuned for remaining course reviews.
